Pear Sperling Eggan & Daniels, P.C. is celebrating its diamond anniversary this year. One of the oldest firms in Washtenaw County, PSED traces its founding back to 1948 when J. Don Lawrence and Robert Ulrich, both alumni of the University of Michigan Law School, opened the Lawrence & Ulrich law office in downtown Ypsilanti. As they say, the rest is history.
Ed Pear clerked for the firm while attending law school and joined as an attorney in 1966 with Andy Eggan and Tom Daniels joining in 1975 and 1984, respectively. Larry Sperling merged his private practice into the firm in 1985. Larry passed away in 2018 leaving quite a legal legacy.
We have been at our Domino’s Farms location since it opened in 1985.
The current firm, with 13 attorneys, handles everything from a basic estate plan to any type of real estate transaction; from the organization of businesses to the establishment of a new university; from a simple divorce to the most nuanced piece of litigation.
The firm has served as general counsel to one of the world’s largest franchise companies; helped clients administer probate and trust estates; worked on behalf of a number of colleges and universities; represented workers who were improperly terminated; defended individuals in criminal proceedings; counseled municipalities; and litigated complex litigation matters.
“No one in 1948 would have been able to foresee the changes that would take place in the practice of law over the last 75 years—and it’s impossible to predict what changes will come about in the coming years,” says Edwin Pear. “Our law firm is proud of its past history and accomplishments and looks forward to the changes and challenges that are to come in the future.”
